James Rodriguez — Clinical AI Leader
Open to new opportunities

James Rodriguez, PA-C

Clinical AI & Informatics Leader

Physician Assistant with 14 years of clinical experience and 5 years leading healthcare AI adoption at scale. I've built and deployed 3 AI tools used by 200+ clinicians at WellMed, achieved 94% adoption rates, and earned a promotion to Director by automating what used to require 3 full-time trainers. Now I'm pursuing the intersection of clinical expertise and AI systems — helping healthcare organizations turn promising technology into measurable clinical impact.

Key Achievements

Numbers from the work, not the resume.

94%
AI adoption rate
Across 200+ WellMed clinicians — one of the highest adoption rates in the organization's history.
3
AI tools deployed
AI avatar for palliative care training, micro-learning EMR onboarding system, and DocGuard AI — all in production.
200+
clinicians trained
Automated onboarding eliminated in-person travel across TX and FL, saving $100k+ in trainer costs annually.
14+
years in clinical care
Skilled nursing, ENT, and palliative care across Texas, Florida, and California. Licensed PA-C in all three states.
  • Promoted from palliative care PA to Director of Clinician Education after CEO George Rapier recognized the onboarding automation program
  • Built DocGuard AI — a real-time clinical documentation validator that helps physicians close HCC diagnoses and maximize risk adjustment accuracy
  • Currently pursuing AMIA 10x10 certification in Biomedical Informatics & AI (Apr – Jul 2026)
  • Outreach to Hippocratic AI, Navina AI, and Optum leadership — active pipeline in clinical AI adoption consulting

Clinical AI that actually sticks.

Most healthcare AI fails at adoption — not because the technology is bad, but because it wasn't designed with clinicians in mind.

I've spent 5 years on the inside of that problem: building training systems, deploying AI tools, and measuring what makes providers use (or ignore) new technology. I'm looking for roles where clinical credibility and AI fluency together create impact — Director of Innovation, Clinical Informatics, or AI adoption leadership.

Projects

Things I've built — in production, not just on a slide deck.

DocGuard AI

Live

Real-time clinical documentation assistant. Validates MDD diagnoses against DSM-5 criteria, flags missing symptom clusters, recommends severity levels, and helps physicians maximize HCC capture for risk adjustment. Built with TypeScript, Next.js, and OpenAI.

WellMed AI Onboarding System

Deployed at Scale

Automated clinician onboarding system that replaced 1–2x/month in-person training travel across Texas and Florida. Included AI-generated video content, structured learning paths, and an AI avatar trained on palliative care conversations. Result: 94% adoption across 200+ clinicians, CEO recognition, and promotion to Director.

What Colleagues Say

From the people who worked alongside the work.

James's onboarding program changed how we think about clinical education. What used to take weeks of travel and in-person sessions now happens asynchronously — and providers actually retain it.

Physician, WellMed Palliative Care Division

I've worked with a lot of clinical educators who describe AI tools. James is one of the few who actually builds them. That combination is rare.

Medical Director, WellMed

The training materials James created for our EMR rollout were the clearest I've ever seen. He translates clinical workflow into technology language and back — something most people can't do.

Nurse Practitioner, WellMed Texas
